About Us

We are the St. Joseph's Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO). We are a secular movement established by St. Francis of Assisi more than 800 years ago. Our purpose is to bring the gospel to life where we live and work. We look for practical ways to embrace the gospel in our lives and try to help others do likewise.

In today's world we are plagued by time schedules, projects, and activities that leave us tense and stressed. The SFO becomes our place of refuge and renewal; where our brothers and sisters in Francis support and inspire us. We support each other through the ups and downs of daily life. As a fraternity we take action on issues that affect the lives of others such as serving at the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall in downtown Baton Rouge.

Where We Meet

Our fraternity usually meets on the fourth Sunday of each month at the Corcoran Center in the Maryville Convent, 4200 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge. We begin at 1:10pm with the Franciscan Crown Rosary in the Chapel of St. Francis, proceeding to our business meeting and Agape Time in the Corcoran Room. Meetings usually conclude between 3:00 and 4:00pm.

Are You Being Called?

We invite you to come to our meetings and see if God is calling you to a Franciscan way of life. You'll have plenty of time to get to know us before making any commitment. The SFO requires three months of orientation and six months of inquiry. Beginning orientation information is available on our Formation page. We hope to see you soon.
